The brainchild of educational psychologist Dr Ng Meng Lek, NeuroLAT takes into account a child’s psychological, physiological, and cognitive abilities, The program uses them to generate questions for the child to answer. These will increase in difficulty and gradually push him through various levels of cognition.
Dr Ng developed this artificial intelligence program after discovering that many low-income parents could not afford the tuition needed to help their children cope in school. He set about looking for ways to help them with their difficulties. He learned that many children could not do well in school because they struggled with physiological, cognitive, and psychological challenges.
The NeuroLAT artificial intelligence program has helped over 1200 children and adults. Wei Zhe, who had an IQ of 67, underwent the program. His educational psychiatrist evaluated him and found that it improved to 111. He now attends a mainstream secondary school, where he excels in Design and Technology.
Another beneficiary of the program is a 20-year-old autistic youth from Malaysia. After faithfully answering the questions the program generated, he became more socially aware. He has also learned to seek permission from his parents when he needs to use his mobile phone.
Mdm Yan Qin, who put her son through the program, said that he completed the Chinese PSLE listening comprehension examination effortlessly. He also topped his school.
